Physiological barriers
Skin explants
• Phototoxicity studies. Studies of compound reactivity on skin surface after UV exposure.
• Permeability. Skin barrier permeability studies of different compounds.
• LDH/resazurin cytotoxicity studies
Cell viability and metabolic state are studied using absorbance (LDH) or fluorescence (resazurin) measurements in both healthy or sensitized/damaged (psoriatic) skin after treatment with different compounds.
• Anti-inflamatory/antioxidant efficacy assays in both healthy or damaged skin explants
Studies on common inflammatory mediators as skin disease pro-inflammatory mediators.
•Antioxidative activity studies
Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) generation in damaged skin. These ROS have an important role in cell signalling associated to inflammation.
• ADME, metabolism assays in both skin or/and liver.
• Skin absorption using UV-A UV-B or VIS spectra (Wavelengths between 270 and 700).
Efficacy studies
• Efficacy studies of compounds or pharmacological formulations in healthy human skin. These studies are related to the discovery of different properties of the compounds or formulations; anti-inflammatory activity, proton pumps activation, acidity, etc.
• Efficacy studies of compounds or pharmacological formulations in damaged human skin. Psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, artificially photo-aged skin.
